tourist scamsWhen I first visited Madrid, I was warned to be careful when exiting the Madrid-Barajas Airport. Apparently, plenty of people have fallen prey to pickpockets almost as soon as exiting the lobby.

This doesn’t happen only in Madrid. In fact, there are many tricks and scams designed to rid you of your money all over the world.

The truth is these can be prevented by being extra vigilant. Simple things make a big different.

Keep your eyes open.

Make sure your bags are closed.

Be aware of your belongings at all times.

There are plenty of tips to help you avoid these kinds of situations in the future, but there are situations where this is easier said than done. Some of these scams are elaborate and you may not even realize it is a scam at first.
