Exploring Queensland, Australia
written on February 28th, 2013 by Jean Del Mar
Have you ever wondered why Australia is called as the Land Down Under? Australia lies below the equator in the lower part of the southern hemisphere. It’s also a big country with plenty to offer. With 7,700,000 sq.km of land area, where exactly should we visit?
I bet you already know about the Great Barrier Reef, the Sydney Opera House and Ayers Rock or Uluru. Some of you may have even been there before, but Australia has much much more to offer. Let’s explore a few spots that need their day in the sun. Here’s a quick tour of my favorite spots in Queensland, Australia.
Cairns Esplanade
What’s the perfect place in Queensland to visit with the whole family? You’ll need something for mom, dad and the kids. Cairns Esplanade offers the best bonding experience for all. Kids, teens, moms, dads and even grannies will enjoy their experience here. If you’ve got a health conscious mom, there are a lot of free fitness activities. Just make sure to secure your exercise attire. For dads, there are outdoor recreational activities that will test their toughness. Concerts and parties abound for the restless teens. There’s also soothing light concerts for grannies that will keep them relaxed and entertained. How about little kids? Esplanade offers lots of activities for kids and their parents. Sports and games are played regularly in the parks.
Atherton Tablelands
Visiting new places isn’t solely about satisfying your sense of sight, touch and hearing. Don’t forget about taste and smell. That’s what you should experience once you visit the region’s food bowl. In Atherton Tablelands, the locals know a thing or two about taste and smell. Every October, they celebrate the Tastes of Tableland festival showcasing their best wines, coffees, cheeses and chocolates. It is truly a remarkable gastronomically savory experience.
I need a place that’s different from all the usual shopping, swimming, eating, strolling and etc. I asked myself, “Why not try trekking and going into the wild?” I loved the idea! If you think so too, the Outback Queensland is the place for you. The Outback is a remote area that offers an adventure not possible in an urban area. It is home to a diverse set of species. You will see all sorts of animals there, but the highlight has to be the kangaroos.
The Outback Queensland is not just a mountain to climb or a vast place to hike. It is also a place where you can connect to the true culture of Queensland. I swear! The feeling and experience is really different from the urban area. Discover it yourself.
