Home of the Queen City of the South, Cebu has earned its rightful place as one of the top tourists destinations in the Philippines. This bustling area definitely has a lot of surprises in store for the leisurely traveler or the adventurous explorer.
Culture
Learn more about the rich culture of Cebu by visiting museums and historical landmarks in the province. The Casa Gorordo Museum currently houses several old and ancient relics from the 1860s up to the 1920s. Magellan’s Cross is housed in a chapel next to the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño, which is another important cultural and religious structure in the region.
Take a stroll down the oldest street in the Philippines, Colon Street, which is at the heart of downtown Cebu. Museo Sugbo, previously known as Carcel de Cebu, has a lot of rare documents, pictures, and letters from long ago. There are a lot of beautiful religious sites in the province.
Entertainment
Shopping enthusiasts fear not, there are plenty of malls you can visit in Cebu. Plus, major malls such as Ayala Center Cebu, SM City Cebu, and JCentre Mall Cebu are relatively near each other. The upcoming 30-hectare SM Seaside City Cebu promises to be larger than SM Mall of Asia and is expected to open this November.
Downtown Cebu is a local secret go-to place for the budget-conscious. Aizilym Enterprises, Tabo sa Banay, and Unitop Enterprises are some of places you can check for affordable fashion accessories, clothes, and even kitchenware. Nature lovers can visit Mountain View Nature’s Park or JVR Island in the Sky Resort.
Beaches
Cebu is well-known for its beautiful, pristine beaches. Take a trip to islands such as Camotes, Bantayan, and Sumilon for that perfect summer getaway. You can also opt to go island hopping. Usually, there are a lot of boats for rent in Mactan Island, which is just a few minutes away from Cebu City. The price and size of the boat may vary depending on how large the group is.
Urban Life
Enjoy a cup of coffee with friends. Aside from Starbucks, Bo’s, The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, there is an abundance of boutique coffee shops prepared to brew your favorite beverage. Personally, I really love milk tea and there are also a lot of quaint tea shops ready to satisfy our craving.
If you prefer drinking another kind of beverage, coupled with partying until the wee hours of the morning, you can visit these clubs and dance to your heart’s content.
