6 Ways to Have a Birthday full of Adventure in Cebu

written on April 21st, 2014 by

Birthdays are the best, especially when you get to do something memorable with people that matter. In Cebu, planning for a birthday can be tasking. There are so many things you can do here. It’s tough to decide!

We won’t even touch on different food spots. There are too many places to choose from. We’ll talk about doing something different, something special for a birthday. Like a fun adventurous getaway perhaps?

Here are our choices for an adventure-full Birthday in Cebu:

Oslob Cebu whale Shark Swim with the Gentle Giants

Has the celebrant ever seen the biggest sea mammal? Has she ever swum with them? In Cebu, there is an emerging interaction site with these wild giants known as Whale Sharks. It is down South in Tan-awan, Oslob.

It will take about three to four hours to get to the site from Cebu City via bus. You can take a Ceres Bus at the South Bus Terminal going South East. The easier and faster way there is to rent a van or setup a tour.

Once there, the local fishermen, now whale shark care takers, will guide you to these gentle giants thirty meters away from the shoreline. The Whale Sharks are not tamed, but they’re very friendly and will definitely not eat you. You can expect around ten to twenty whale sharks in the area. The fishermen lure them with free meals from six am to twelve noon. That means you’ll need to leave early.

Island Hopping CoverIsland Hopping

There are a handful of islands you can hop around Cebu. One of the more famous ones you should secure in your list is Sumilon Island.

Although I promise there are other islands in the area of Cebu that are just as worthy of your time; Camotes Island, Malapascua Island, Bantayan Island, and Mactan’s numerous islets.

Esoy hot SpringsCliff diving

This is a no brainer for a celebrant who likes a little adventure. For a good cliff diving session go to Esoy Hot Spring in Catmon, Cebu. That’s about two hours away from the city center going North East. This privately operated hot spring site offers subterranean heat-caused hotspring, river trekking, rock climbing, waterfalls diving, cliff diving, and hydromassage all in one area. You might even catch Mr. Esoy himself. Sometimes he personally guides people through the hot springs.

Out of the thousands of islands in South East Asia, these migratory birds escape the deadly winter from Europe and Australia and choose to land in Olango Island, Cebu. This island serves as their stopover to rest and refuel.

If your celebrant wants a chance to experience these migratory birds, then the Olango Bird Sanctuary is the best place to go. They will be part of a contingent of bird enthusiasts, scientists and documentary producers from all over the world who have visited these birds.

osmena peakTrek the highest peak of Cebu

If your celebrant dreams of being on top of the world, the highest peak in Cebu is 1000 meters above sea level, the Osmena Peak. The view is spectacular. It may not be the highest peak in the Philippines, but it feels like being on top of the world.

When you’re there, you’ll get to see the surrounding islands like Leyte, Bohol, Negros, Siquijor and even Surigao del Norte. It’s three hours away from the city center. Head Southeast passing cliffs and mountains on a bus.

kartingKarting at Kartzone

If you don’t want to go out of town, but still want a little adventure on land, kart racing is a great choice. Visit the only Kartzone in Cebu. It’s in Panagdait, Mabolo – right before Sykes Asia and just behind Jollibee Panagdait. Matteo Guidicelli, the famous Pinoy- Cebuano racer is a member here too!

Above all else, what really matters is to spend your Birthday with people who really matters. You may choose to do these or none at all. But as long as you celebrate your birthday with good natured fun and pleasant company, you will have a great day.
