6 Crazy Good Things To Do in CamSur
written on October 3rd, 2016 by Kristiana Rule
Slow and steady does it for Camarines Sur—over the years, this once-sleepy southern province has made a name for itself as one of the country’s top tourist destinations. Here are 6 awesome things you should try while in CamSur:
1. Get an adrenaline rush at the CamSur Watersports Complex (CWC)
One can’t go to CamSur without hitting the famous CWC. Priding itself as Asia’s premier watersports complex, CWC offers adrenaline-pumping activities like wakeboarding, kneeboarding and water skiing, to name a few. The sprawling complex also offers other activities and amenities like pools, volleyball courts and accommodations.
2. Discover the hidden gems of Caramoan
If you want to veer off the beaten path then challenge yourself to discover the untamed beauty of the Caramoan islands. This group of islands located off the peninsula boasts clear waters, limestone cliffs and pure white sand. Fun fact: these hidden gems have been sites of several Survivor editions. Can it get wilder than that?
3. Stuff yourself with Bicol Express and Laing
Where better to try these famed dishes than in the heart of the Bicol region itself? The region is famous for Bicol Express— a spicy, coconut-milk based dish curiously named after a train, and laing—dried taro leaves also based in coconut milk. CWC even went as far as to make laing pizza. Give it a go!
4. Countryside chill at Lake Buhi
Other than being a beautiful lake flanked by two ancient volcanoes, Lake Buhi is also home to the world’s smallest fish- the sinarapan. If you’re in for a laidback trip to the countryside with little to do besides relaxing by the water, stuffing yourself with seafood and enjoying the wonderful view— Lake Buhi may just be the trip for you.
5. Conquer volcanoes
Camsur has at least two dormant volcanoes— Mt Asog (or Iriga) and Mt Isarog— both popular destinations for hikers and hardcore mountaineers. It may not be for the faint of heart as they’re considered as semi-difficult climbs. However, if you are a mountaineer with a knack for adventure and old volcanoes then you might want to give these two a try.
6. Chase waterfalls
CamSur is home to several stunning waterfalls. Try rappelling at Nalalata Falls and enjoy its cool, aquamarine pools. How about hitting two birds with one stone at Itbog Twin Falls (yes, twin!) —where two falls cascade over green foliage? Or the local favorite Malabsay falls? The chase for waterfalls can go forever in CamSur.
