6 Camotes To-Dos

Roughly 60 kilometers from Cebu City, Camotes island is located relatively close for weekend beach goers. But there’s so much more to do than just beach. Let’s get to it.

Here are 6 Camotes To Do’s:

1. Be a beach bum at Santiago and Mangodlong

First order of business in Camotes is obviously the white-sand and peaceful beaches. Santiago and Mangodlong offer white sand that stretch all the way out to the clear, blue sea. Get that tan and bum around at your leisure— the beaches of Camotes are not overly commercialized or cluttered.

2. Kayak in Lake Danao

Camotes is where you can find Cebu’s only lake and at 680 hectares it may be the biggest lake in the Visayas. Lake Danao is serene and peaceful. Enjoy kayaking through its clear waters and chilling around the lakeside park.

3. Go Caving

Camotes has a lot of caves that one can explore. Here are some of them:

  • Timubo Cave- Timubo cave’s crystal-clear waters offer a unique swimming experience to tourists and locals alike.
  • Holy Crystal Cave- Holy crystal cave is famous for its 8 levels where you can apparently see religious figures formed by the crystalline stalactites. The cave’s entrance is quite small and it’s a challenging descent but tourists say the rock formations below are worth it.
  • Bukilat Cave- arguably the island’s most popular caves, Bukilat is said to have been a shelter for the islanders from the invading Japanese. The cave is illuminated by a natural sky-light. Impressive stalactites and stalagmites can be found, as well as an underground pool.

4. Busay Falls

Let Busay Falls’ cool pool refresh you from a hike under the sun. Located in Poro island, the falls may be small and cozy but it proves to be one’s right kind of chill. It is 8-10 feet in depth so jumping off the surrounding rocks near the cascade is safe. If you’re not confident, you can always just float around and chill.

5. Have a classic barbecue and puso by the boardwalk

Camotes is made for laid-back fun. Their boardwalk is an easy-breezy area great for strolls and for classic barbecue and puso meals.

6. Jump off Buho Rock

Adrenaline junkie? Head out to Buho rock for a legit cliff diving experience. You can go as high as 40 feet if you dare. What’s waiting for you is the crystal-clear deep waters of Camotes and a panoramic view of the horizon beyond.
