5 Jobs to Consider If You Love Traveling

One of the reasons why we’re hesitant to travel is that we have to show up for work the next day. What if we told you that you could score a job while enjoying the perks of traveling? Here are some employment opportunities to consider if you want to scratch that travel itch.

Au Pair

Au pairs are considered part of the host family. According to Wikipedia, the title “comes from the French term meaning ‘at par’ or ‘equal to’, indicating that the relationship is intended to be one of equals.” If you wish to explore a new country (usually, European countries hire au pairs), don’t mind looking after kids and doing a bit of housework, then this might be a good option for you. In exchange, you get free board and lodging, a monthly allowance and sometimes, language lessons paid for by your host family. Depending on your contract, you can get vacation leaves where you can explore other places or even neighboring countries.

Flight Crew

Flight crew jobs can be challenging, but are often viewed as one of the most rewarding when it comes to travel opportunities. Being a member of the flight crew has some perks and downsides. If you’ve got the will and energy to do hours-long flights, then you might want try being a flight attendant.  Score a spot in an international fleet and you’ve basically earned a ticket around the globe while keeping a good paycheck.

Cruise Ship staff

Cruise ship staff enjoys the same travel opportunities as flight crew. Only, they do it while on sea, on a luxury liner. Those with experience in the hospitality industry are best equipped for life on a cruise ship. It’s basically a floating hotel. There are opportunities in a lot of fields: human resources, customer service, housekeeping, food and beverages, and even in entertainment.  Cruise ship contracts usually last 4-9 months. Life on board can be a hustle, but you’re rewarded to places you’ve never been and good salary. Plus, you don’t have to think of your accommodation and food because that’s already provided on board.

Digital Nomads

Digital nomads are becoming more and more popular these days. These “nomads” are what Forbes calls “professionals who prefer a location-independent lifestyle that allows them to travel and work anywhere in the world.” Which means as a digital nomad, all you need is a laptop and internet to make ends meet. Your job is not dictated by your workplace anymore. Isn’t that cool? There are lots of digital nomad jobs out there, if you just know where to look. ODesk seems like a popular place for freelance and fulltime jobs. This way, you can work while satisfying that wanderlust.

Teaching English Abroad

Teaching English while on the road seems like a good idea to sustain a backpacking lifestyle.
