You don’t need to spend much to travel. All you need is a good attitude and some creativity. One of the easiest and most fun ways to a good time is an old fashioned road trip. Long drives don’t have to be exhausting and a hassle.

The road is full of endless possibilities: hit the beach, take a dip in a spring, jump down waterfalls, bask in the mountain air, get cultured at historical sites or just keep driving as far as you can go. These are just a few of the awesome outcomes.

Best to be prepared.

Without further ado, these are the road trip essentials:

  • Guide map. For those who need structure in their lives, you will need a map. It’s so easy these days. You can get an old fashioned paper map or just load it on your phone. See! Easy. You also have the option to throw away the map and just wing it! Part of a great road trip is adventure. So if you are comfortable with the unknown, just go for it.
  • Car. Not just any car. You need a well maintained car with a full tank of gas, a good set of wheels and an extra tire. You don’t want the buzz kill of a breakdown in the middle of good trip.
  • Sturdy backpack. You aren’t gonna be in the car the whole day. You might take a hike or go down to the beach. You wouldn’t want to leave all your personal belongings and valuables in the car.
  • Sunglassesand a hat. What’s a good road trip without sunglasses and a hat? All great road trips have at least one of these. The sun will be shining bright on your story. You might need a little shade from it.
  • Water. Don’t make the mistake of heading out without water. The fun stops when someone starts becoming dehydrated.
  • Cooler. Drinks need to be cold. If you have space, you’ll want this.
  • Snacks. The first aid kit for a hungry stomach.
  • Camera. This is important! You’ll want to be able to freeze momentous events in your life. Who knows? This could be one of them.
  • Swimsuit or extra clothes. You never know if the asphalt at some point turns to sand. These might be useful if you can’t resist the temptation of jumping into refreshing waters.
  • Flashlight or head lamp. Good road trips last late into the night. You never know. This might prove very important.
  • Music. Don’t take this for granted. When signal from radio stations start to wane, you’ll want to keep the mood going.
  • Personal effects. Girls will have this covered: sunscreen, lip balm, facial cleansing wipes, tissue and hand sanitizer.
  • Tool kit. This is for the guys. In the event, your car needs to change a tire or something similar, best be ready.
  • First aid kit. This includes basic medicine for headaches, stomachaches, car sickness and minor injuries.
  • Candies and gum. Sweets are good to have. Also they help prevent nausea.
  • Driver’s license. Everyone loves a twist of adventure, but you don’t want to be the designated driver without a driver’s license.
  • Phone. When the going gets tough, who you gonna call?
  • Pillow and blanket. Road trips are best with a good nap. You might as well be comfortable.
  • Surf or skim board. For those hitting the water, take advantage of the waves.
  • Best travel buddy. This is the most important. This is the best item on the list and I think you already know why.
