5 Road Trip Tips

*In line with the last blog post, A Negros Road Trip, Rusty decided to include a few road trip tips. Enjoy! – Editor’s note
1. For safety, always ensure that one’s vehicle is in good condition.
We had ours checked before we went on our trip. Be sure to check your brakes, lights, oil, water, battery, air, gas, engine, tire, and most especially yourself if you are fit to drive. This is to ensure that you and your vehicle travel safely from one destination to another and avoid any inconveniences or trouble.
2. Study the maps before going on the trip.
While apps have made navigating to new places easy, sometimes a connection is not available in far flung places (even in first world countries). It helps to have an idea as to where you are going. Check out the area you want to go to beforehand to be familiar with it. If you find yourself completely lost, don’t be afraid to ask the locals. They will happily point out to where you need to go.
3. Have entertainment ready for the road or at sea.
Make sure they are available offline too. It makes the ride entertaining and ensures the driver and passengers don’t get sleepy along the way. While nothing beats proper rest the night before, a little entertainment can keep everyone perky and energetic.
4. Planning for activities is good but make time to be spontaneous.
Unless your trip is time-bound or you need to be someplace at a certain time, enjoy interruptions on the road such as stumbling upon an empty beach by the road, enjoying a delicious snack you randomly find in a small town, or walking down that trail that you did not intend taking. Who knows what you might find?
5. Lastly, just enjoy!
The best way to make any road trip epic is to simply enjoy the scenery, enjoy the people you meet everywhere you go, and enjoy the company.
