The Many Charms of Paoay, Ilocos [Photo Essay]

Paoay holds many charms and places to visit. There is the St Augustine Church (simply known as Paoay Church), one of the oldest in the country with a compound peaceful and well-kept, the architecture stunningly proud. There is also the placid Paoay Lake, rumored to hold a sunken town below its depths. Once congested and infected with E. Coli, the lake has now been transformed into a beautiful tourist spot. Last but not the least is the famous Paoay sand dunes where thrill-seekers can enjoy a roller-coaster 4×4 ride and sandboarding. At the edge of the dunes is a beautiful beach. The hundreds of hectares of sand has been used as location for many movies, including local legend FPJ’s Ang Panday. True enough, there is a statue erected in his honor.
