7 To Do’s in Bohol, Philippines

The tenth largest island in the Philippines, Bohol is full of sights and sounds! No doubt you know some of the famous to do’s in this list, but continue reading, you might be surprised to find something new.

Here are some of the things that you can do while adventuring in Bohol.

1. See the chocolate hills

This wonder of nature is one of the top reasons why tourists from all over the world visit Bohol, and for good reason. These unique hills (there are 1,268 of them) stretch out for miles on end and are simply breath-taking. During the wet season they are green, but during the summer months the grass on the hills turn brown, making you think of chocolate.

2. Get some good Bol-anon grub

If Bohol has hills that look like chocolate, they also have chocolate that look like hills! Aside from their quirky souvenirs, you can also have your fill of calamay, peanut kisses and a crazy array of seafood.

3. Get acquainted with tarsiers

If the chocolate hills are Bohol’s prime tourist destination, the tarsier might be its cute little mascot.  Not found anywhere else in the world, the Philippine tarsier is an endangered species and is known as one of the smallest living primates. The Philippine Tarsier and Wildlife Sanctuary in the town of Corella offer you a chance to observe these nocturnal mammals in their natural habitat.

3. Go on the path less travelled in Anda

While Bohol offers a lot of stunning white sand beaches and luxurious resorts, Anda offers something just as enticing for those who want an off-the-beaten-path adventure. It is considered as one of Bohol’s hidden gems. Relax in its quiet beaches and take stunning photographs of its rock formations and cave pools.

4. Trek to Can-umantad Falls

Can-umantad Falls in nearby Candijay town is also something worth the trek. This is the tallest waterfall in Bohol at 60 feet. Along the way you can also catch the Cadapdapan Rice Terraces. These picturesque view is surely one of Bohol’s hidden charms.

5. Dolphin watching

Pamilacan island used to be home to whale and dolphin hunters. Now, these former hunters have adopted a more sustainable livelihood by giving guided whale and dolphin watching tours. During the summer months, sightings of sperm whales can also be found.

6. Go crazy underwater in Balicasag

In Bisaya, the name Balicasag literally translates to an upturned or upside-down crab. Luckily, it’s not only crabs that you can see in this island which is considered as a paradise for dive enthusiasts. Array of fish and species of marine life abound in this island off the coast of Panglao and should be worth every penny you spend.

7. Cruise along the Mahogany man-made forest

If you want some chill, then cruise along the Philippine’s only man-made forest. Literally chill—because of the dense mahogany trees, the temperature in the forest is cooler compared to the areas outside it. This is a testament that we can replant entire forests if we just have the will to do it. Good job, Bohol!
